School Board and Parent Body

School Board

The School Board is an elected group of people representing the parents, the staff and the parish. The board’s functions include:

  • the support of the school's Christian ethos
  • responsibility for the school's financial management
  • the development of school policy

The School Board meets monthly and operates in accordance with the Guidelines set by the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools.

The Parents and Friends Association

Our Parent Body

“Connecting the Parents & Friends in our Community”

The Parents and Friends committee is responsible for organising social activities to promote ‘community’ as well as fund raising. All parents and/or carers of the school are automatically members of the P&F. The main focus is to support St Francis of Assisi School in building community and a network amongst families. The P&F organises small fundraisers, but throughout the year the main funding is through the P&F Levy.

All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend committee meetings, as well as community building and fund raising activities and functions.

The Parents and Friends Committee events

Previous events the P&F has organised:

  • Mother's Day Stall
  • Entertainment Books
  • Grandparents & Grandfriends Day
  • Sports Day BBQ
  • Father's Day Stall
  • School Disco

Other than the Entertainment Book, these are all community-building events.

We are always looking for parent volunteers to join us .... would you like to become involved?

Assisting with organising an event or helping on the day - you will always walk away with satisfaction - role modelling your support of your children's school.  A bonus is that you will meet other parents you may not already know and, in many instances, make some lifelong friends!

Think of how you can become involved in our school, grab a friend or friends, come along .... it's is really a lot of fun!

How can I help the Parents and Friends Committee?

If you're interested in attending one of our meetings, the dates are advertised every fortnight in the Newsletter and on the school calendar.

If you are interested in assisting the P&F at St Francis, the following FAQs may help. Please contact us if you have any other questions.

You only need to commit as much as you would like to! You don’t need to make a big commitment – you may only want to come along to listen or discuss a particular issue, or you may enjoy being involved in one of the event subcommittees or helping on the day.

For those who do like to get really involved, each year the following positions are open:

  • Chairperson: Chairs all meetings and works closely with all committee positions and School Staff to help coordinate events
  • Deputy Chairperson: Support to the chairperson as required
  • Treasurer: Involves getting the financial statements from the School Bursar and keeping the Committee informed on how much we can put back into the children’s/school facilities.
  • Secretary: Involved in sending out the Agenda and taking minutes at the meeting
  • Committee Member: Contributing an idea, or helping with one or two or all fundraisers, or just listening if that’s what makes you comfortable!

Positions are decided at our first meeting for each year and details of any open positions will be announced in the School Newsletter.

There is a certain sense of accomplishment when we are able to see what is achieved by our work. With the help of our Levy and Fundraising money, in the past, we have:

  • donated money to the sports room for extra balls and other sports equipment
  • paid for the much needed extra playground equipment for the Receptions and Year 1s
  • purchased cricket nets on the oval
  • purchased all the seating for the new MPF (Multi Purpose Facility)
  • donated money to the Parish for audio-visual equipment in the Hall, that is often used by our children

We also help the school by making donations for extra equipment that just cannot fit into the school budget.  This may be additional electronic whiteboards, or additional sports or music equipment, or additional audio-visual equipment – anything that will benefit our children.
